Questions to ask yourself if you’re stuck:

These are a list of questions that may help you start with journaling. They don’t have to be answered
every time, and adding your own questions and observations is what makes your journal your own personal
treasure. These are designed to help you begin writing and discover yourself, your feelings, and your
reactions to the world around you. They help you identify your emotions and nurturing behaviors and goals
that make you a better YOU.

  • What have I done for myself today?
    • Did I put something new in my life?
    • What did I learn about myself today?
    • What kind of feedback did I receive today, and how did I feel about it?
    • What were my goals for today, and how successful was I in reaching them?
  • What am I doing to help myself today?
    • How am I disciplining myself to do something I didn’t want to do, but needed to do anyway?
    • What do I feel my strongest asset is today?
    • What am I changing about my life?
    • What am I willing, or not willing to change about my life?
    • In what ways could I make my life work better for me?
  • If I feel blocked, what feelings or events am I using to keep myself stuck?
    • Describe the feeling(s) I am having:
    • Write a letter to someone with whom you are feeling some unfinished feelings.
      • Don’t send this letter unless you are ABSOLUTELY sure you are able and willing to take
        the consequences for it.
      • Include yourself as a recipient if you feel it necessary, but DON’T use the letter as
        an excuse to bash yourself; make it work FOR you.
  • What did I learn today?
    • What circumstances occurred today which helped me understand myself?
    • How will I use what I learned?
  • What happened around me today?
    • What happened in the world today? The country? Our state? Our town? Our campus?
    • What happened with the people I care about?
    • What are the the events that affected me, and how did they affect me?

This list is modified and drawn from “Guidelines for Daily Journaling,” a list given to me in a
journaling workshop I took. The author was not cited, and I have no idea who he/she is. I have
changed and added some questions to apply to a college background.

I was thinking, after being inspired by one of my favorite creative sites (“Creative Awakenings” : http://www.creativeawakenings.ning.com ), that posting some journal prompts and posts would be a lot of fun. So, I’m inviting you to post your prompts and responses to those prompts here. If you have a website or blog that you’d like to link to, let me know and I’ll post it if it fits the theme here. I’ll start things off by posting some pictures I took last fall while I was a walk with my son. (Loveland has some *incredible* sculpture parks!) So…Enjoy!
